Prerequisites:
- Basic PC knowledge and skills, including Microsoft Windows
- Knowledge and/or experience in general supply chain/logistics concepts is beneficial
- Knowledge and/or experience in optimization and simulation is beneficial
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Access and Excel is beneficial
Description:
This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of supply chain network design, building supply chain models, navigation tools, as well as, two specific hands-on case studies.
Led by Optiant's industry-veteran supply chain professionals, the course will feature guest instructor, Dr. Jeremy Shapiro, Professor of Operations Research and Management Emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a noted expert in supply chain network design and former founder of Slim Technologies.
This is an intensive one and a half day course, combining lecture,application demonstrations and hands-on group case study work.
At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand the Optiant PowerChain solution suite and value proposition addressing real business problems
- Support network design decision making in manufacturing, distribution and retail supply chains
- Comprehend data inputs and modeling frameworks within PowerChain Network Design for logistics network design, capacity planning and flexibility, make vs. buy decisions integration with product development, and tactical planning and purchasing
- Create reports and perform analysis within in PoweChain Network Design, including maps, charts, reports and import/export templates
- Perform what-if analysis/scenario creation to address strategic questions around facility location, risk analysis, mergers and acquisitions, sourcing strategy and transportation mode selection
- Explain the key features regarding inventory optimization and modeling in PowerChain Network Design
- Take away architecture and methodology best practices for collecting data, analyzing data and building models to support holistic supply chain network optimization
