Case Studies and Methodologies Demonstrate Business Value
Boston, MA – April 11, 2008 – Optiant, the premier provider of inventory planning and optimization solutions, announces that its co-founder and chief scientist, Sean Willems, and founder of Slim Technologies, now part of Optiant, Jerry Shapiro, along with premier customer, Procter & Gamble, will present at the upcoming 8th Annual Informs Conference, being held April 13-15, 2008, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Willems, also professor at Boston University, will present “Multi-Echelon Inventory Optimization” on Monday, April 14, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. He will offer insights on how inventory optimization technology is evolving and the business dynamics that enable manufacturers to leverage this technology in the S&OP process. He will share best practices on integrating inventory management into existing business systems and processes for continuous improvement in key corporate performance metrics.
Joining him at 11:30 a.m., on the agenda, will be William Tarlton, Supply Chain R&D Manager, Personal Beauty Care, Procter & Gamble (P&G). He will deliver a case study titled, “Inventory Optimization at P&G: Achieving the Real Benefits through User Adoption.” Mr. Tarlton will discuss the implementation of Optiant’s multi-echelon inventory optimization solution that has enabled P&G to maintain service levels at nearly 100% while continuing to significantly reduce inventory. Attendees will learn how P&G aligned work processes to key users’ requirements and how they attained user adoption to ensure that benefits of the technology are realized.
Also, Dr. Shapiro, Professor of Operations Research and Management Emeritus, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will present the session “Supply Chain Network Design in Retailing Companies” on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 3:10 p.m. In his talk, he will examine how retail companies are increasingly applying analytics to data-driven decision problems, including strategic optimization analyses of their supply chain networks. Dr. Shapiro will discuss how these companies can identify cost savings and customer service improvements through network design optimization. Attendees will learn best practices for modeling supply chain networks and will review two customer case studies.
